Food That Heals

It’s not news that certain kinds of food help us have a healthier life, but did you know that some food can relief or even help heel some diseases?
 

The nutritional state of a person is important to insure the well-functioning of their immune system. And there’s where it comes the nutrition not only providing energy and nutrients to the body, but various foods have valuable therapeutic properties and are to be included in the diet.
 

I will be posting here in the next posts an A to Z food list together with explanation of the therapeutic properties of each one of them.
 

Let’s starts with the letter A:
 

Avocado - Helps with digestion and constant consumption combats rheumatism and uric acid. The diet with avocado for 2 to 3 days is helpful in combating the calculations gallbladder and gastro duodenal ulcers.

Apple - It’s a tonic food. Helps digestion, fights anemia and the formation of stomach ulcers. Fighting diarrhea, especially in children, due to its astringent action. The apple juice has anti fever action. Pectin is the main fiber present in the apple, it is a soluble fiber (usually used to thicken jellies) and helps in reducing cardiovascular disease and prevention of constipation. Furthermore, this favorably influences fiber cholesterol levels in blood and functions as a natural agent against toxic substances including contamination by toxic metals. There have also been shown beneficial effects of apple pectin both in reducing the lead as the mercury in the gastrointestinal tract and respiratory systems. The antioxidants present in fruit (peel and pulp), flavonoids and polyphenols are able to preserve cells from damage caused by the action of free radicals, thereby slowing the aging process and protecting the body from a number of diseases, including cancer.
 

Apricots - It’s rich in vitamins A and C and minerals such as potassium, calcium and magnesium, while also stand out for their containing tannins and beta-carotene. It also helps in bone growth and tissue of the nervous system itself being ideal for children. It has a large laxative power therefore helping with intestinal problems, such as the case of constipation and its anti-inflammatory, also being diuretic. It also helps against hypertension and gout, while preventing both cardiovascular and degenerative problems, protecting vision, skin, hair, teeth and bones.
 

Artichokes - The artichoke can offer many benefits to our health, it has excellent nutritional and medicinal properties. To get an idea, every 100g edible, find good doses of B vitamins, potassium, calcium, phosphorus, iodine, sodium, magnesium and iron. It has substances with beneficial effect of the liver pathways. Presenting the cynarin and caffeic acid that stimulate the formation of bile, regulating the formation of bile salts and cholesterol.

They are used against icterus, making the symptoms disappear quickly. The leaves reduce the rate of blood sugar and are used as help in the treatment of diabetes. It also prevents the hardening of the arteries. We just have to be careful with people who are allergic to artichokes or when there is obstruction of the bile duct.
 

Asparagus - Without a doubt, one of the most prominent benefits of asparagus is its power as a diuretic. The plant significantly stimulates the bladder; that it contains carbohydrates and saponin, both elements which enhance the removal of liquids from the urinary system. It also operates as laxative due to abundance of fiber contained in it.
 

Alfalfa - With respect to nutrients, the alfalfa is a rich food. It has considerable quantities of vitamins A, C, D, E, K and the B complex. This makes it contribute to the functioning of the immune system and killing the tiredness. Furthermore, each of these vitamins has a specific function in the body. Vitamin E, for example, improves the appearance of skin and hair. Already vitamin K assists in the process of blood coagulation. The alfalfa also has calcium, potassium, iron and other minerals essential for our health. These nutrients have vasodilator effect, improving blood flow through vessels. It also contains large amounts of vegetable protein: 100g of alfalfa has the same amount of nutrient which 100 ml of milk. So it is widely used by vegetarians and followers of organic food. 

If you want to lose weight you can also count on the help of alfalfa. For starters, the legume has very few calories: 100 grams of raw bud has only 29 kcal. In its composition, alfalfa has large amounts of water and fibers. Combined, these substances improve bowel function, increasing satiety and also reduce the absorption of bad fats by the body.

Another advantage is that alfalfa help detoxify the body. It causes the body to eliminate toxins through sweat, urine and feces. Thus, contributes to the smooth functioning of the body, and ends up with swelling caused by fluid retention. This represents a big reduction in weight.
 

Anchovies - As for benefits, the anchovies are an abundant source of polyunsaturated fatty acids. These acids are responsible, in particular, by reducing HDL cholesterol, making it excellent for cardiovascular health. They also have vitamin A that plays an important role in vision, bone growth, reproduction and cell division, helping to regulate the immune system by promoting healthy surface linings of the eyes and respiratory system , urinary tract and bowel; and Calcium that is essential for the development and maintenance of healthy bones and teeth.
 

Almonds - The almonds are one of the most popular foods for vegetarians, because of its high protein and most minerals. Besides being rich in monounsaturated fats, recent studies reveal that consuming almonds is an excellent measure to reduce bad cholesterol levels, and even protects heart health and maintaining good skin health. The nutrients present in almonds, protein, manganese, copper and riboflavin are used to generate energy in our body.

Almonds are rich in potassium and low in sodium, both are factors that regulate blood pressure. The high level of magnesium in almonds has a positive effect on the arteries and veins... also contains iron, which helps carry oxygen to all body cells and organs.

They are a good source of calcium prevents osteoporosis and strengthens bones, teeth and muscles.

The almonds also have fiber, protein and good fats, which reduces appetite and promotes satiety. It has low glycemic index GI. When ingested with a high-GI food, help reduce the increased level of sugar and insulin after meals helping diabetics.

It is rich in natural fibers, improves the movement of food through the colon, thereby preventing colon cancer. It is an excellent source of vitamin E, phytochemicals and flavonoids that inhibit the growth of breast cancer cells. It is also a rich source of boron, which helps prevent prostate cancer.
